A Saturday Well Spent in Manchester

Whether you’re a newbie to the city or have lived here all of your life, it doesn’t make deciding how to spend your free time any easier when there’s so much going on.

To help you on your way, our development team have all shared parts of how they like to spend a Saturday in the city, discovering the arts and music scene, eating out and of course a spot of partying.

A little inspiration for your next free weekend…

Best for Breakfast

Break the fast with a hearty breakfast at Alabama’s All American Eatery. Open from 9am, this American-style restaurant plates up indulgent options and sizeable portions that will set you up for the day. Stacks of buttermilk pancakes with streaky bacon and maple syrup, steak and eggs with fries, and Eggs Royale with maple cured salmon are just a few top picks from the menu.

Top of the shops

Walk breakfast off with a stroll round the Northern Quarter, an urban space that is renowned for its independent shops selling all sorts of weird and wonderful things from indie clothing and vintage vinyl, to hipster bicycles and unusual art.

Caffeine o’clock

Drop in for refreshments and watch the world go by at Grindsmiths, cool caffeine-fuelled hangouts dotted around the city. As well as speciality coffee by talented baristas, food is also served with options for brekkie and light lunch bites. Hugely passionate about coffee, the team aims to serve the best in Manchester, so see what you think! At Grindsmiths our residents get an exclusive discount of 20% off coffee and teas.

Hello history

Manchester Town Hall was once the highest edifice in Manchester and continues to dominate the urban landscape today. Hard to believe that that there were plans to demolish this in the post-war clean up! The building is closed to the public at the moment while it undergoes refurbishment works but it’s still well worth visiting to view from the outside.

A spot of lunch

Treat yourself to lunch at Mr Cooper’s, one of Manchester’s most vibrant and imaginative restaurants. A modern dining experience offering a selection of tasty appetisers, sharing dishes, big flavours and sweet treats awaits diners. Alternatively if you have lots on the agenda for the day, Chaophraya is a great place for a quick bite to eat. It serves up authentic Thai food and reimagined dishes putting their own stamp on classics. Thai tapas is recommended for a quick lunch, as it’s great for sharing and trying new flavours. Our residents can take advantage of 20% off food at Chaophraya too.

Culture

Explore the city’s culture scene at an international collection of over 60,000 artworks at HOME. It’s also a great spot to catch independent British and foreign films, abstract art instillations and performances. Its redevelopment, supported by a major Heritage Lottery Fund grant and the University of Manchester, has provided state-of-the-art gallery spaces, a learning studio and a study centre, making it a must-visit.

Dinner with a vibe

Descend into the evening with drinks and dinner at Refuge, a huge space filled with a restaurant, bar, winter garden, den and private dining area. The globetrotting menu includes everything from crispy lamb shawarma with fiery harissa, to slow-cooked ox cheek with fried egg and Sriracha. Those with a sweet tooth will love the creamy white chocolate and cardamom brûlée for desert.

Cheers to cocktails

You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to a cocktail or two in Manchester. At Revolution Deansgate Locks you’re bound to find a flavour mix that’s your thing. Set back in Manchester’s distinctive converted railway arches in the south of the city centre it’s a day to night venue and has an outdoor terrace for those sunny Manchester days – the perfect excuse for a daiquiri. It’s happy hour all day Sunday to Friday for residents of The Trilogy, cheers!

Dance the night away

Manchester’s nightlife undoubtedly upholds its rich and electrical musical heritage, boasting a diverse selection of nightclubs to satisfy all kinds of partygoers. Under the tracks of Oxford Road lays one of the most exciting venues on the circuit, Gorilla Nightclub – the perfect place to party into the night to the beat of some of the city’s best DJs.
